Foundations of Yoga

The Sanskrit phrase “yogas chitta vritti nirodha” is commonly translated as “yoga is the stilling or controlling of the modifications or fluctuations of the mind”.  But, what does this mean exactly? In this foundations class, we will explore the the holistic practice of yoga and how it addresses the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual layers of our innate selves.  Using the five koshas or sheaths of being as a framework, we will explore basic asanas (yoga poses) and pranayama (breath control) techniques, learning how to modify each to ensure safe practice.  We will discuss various methods of meditation and discover the wealth of health benefits that can be obtained from focusing within for a few minutes each day. I hope to see you in this foundations class and look forward to setting off on our yoga journey together!
